Maine Golf has been busy running some new and fun junior tournaments around the state in the last month. Read below for recaps of these tournaments and see about all of the great golf being played here in Maine!

Southern ME Junior — Prouts Neck CC, 5/19

Joe Hansen (Val Halla GC) takes individual medalist honors with a round of level-par 70, on the back of playing his final 8 holes 2-under par. Hansen edged out Marc Twombly (Prouts Neck CC), who finished with a 3-over 73. This pair predictably took home team best ball honors with a score of 4-under 66. Charlie Sands (Spring Meadows GC) won Middle School division honors with a score of 80.

Northern ME Junior — Presque Isle CC, 6/21

Michael Bruce (Presque Isle CC) beat the field by 11 shots, firing a 1-under 71 at his home club, just a day after earning medalist honors with a score of 70 at Maine Golf’s second ever Maine Amateur Qualifier at Presque Isle CC. Bruce and best ball partner Grant McIntyre won low best ball honors with a score of 2-under 70. Drew Mertzel (Springbrook GC) won medalist honors for the Middle School division, holing 11 pars en route to a 9-over 81.

Charlie’s Maine Open Junior Flight — Augusta CC, 6/24-26

The first Maine Open since 2019, junior flight competitors not only competed against each other, but against a strong field of Maine amateurs, Maine professionals, and out-of-state professionals. Jack Quinn (Augusta CC) and Eli Spaulding (Brunswick GC) took home not only Low Junior honors, but Low Amateur honors, each finishing the 54 hole event with a score of 209, 1-under par. Goose River GC’s Kellen Adickes finished right on their heels with a 3-day total of 3-over par 213. Jacob Moody (Waterville CC) was 5-over for the tournament and finished 4th in the Junior Division, while Mick Madden (Woodlands Club) finished 5th overall, highlighted by an opening round of 2-under 68.

Lumberjack Junior Open — Barnes Brook GC, 6/28

Barnes Brook GC in West Enfield, ME played host to the 2024 Lumberjack Junior Open, concluding Maine Golf’s “Open Week” just two days after the final round of the 2024 Charlie’s Maine Open. The top of the leaderboard turned out to be highly competitive after two loops of this 9-hole golf course, resulting in a playoff between Jacob Moody (Waterville CC) and Marc Twombly (Prouts Neck CC) at 1-over 73. Needing three runs of the par three 7th hole, Twombly emerged victorious, and took home low medalist honors over runner-up Jacob Moody. Joe Hansen (Val Halla GC) finished third for the event, holing four birdies en route to a 3-over 75. Houlton’s Gavin Bell won a highly contested Middle School division, beating Enfield’s Skylar Bard by 4 shots.
