2026 Maine Junior Championship

Maine Golf is combining two popular formats into one tournament at the Maine Junior Championship. This longstanding championship dates back to 1934 and is one of the oldest tournaments regularly run by Maine Golf. This year’s championship will be a marquee two-day, 36-hole tournament hosted by Fairlawn Golf Course in Poland on July 29-30.

Similar to the Maine high school state championships, we will run an individual and team championship at the same time. The team championship is an optional additional opportunity to play with a teammate, friend or acquaintance, but it is not mandatory to have a teammate to play in the Maine Junior Championship.

Teams will be comprised of two players. Players may select their teammate however they see fit. There are no restrictions. Teams will be flighted based on the age of the older player of the two participants.

Individuals that want to play as individuals only are encouraged to compete at the same time as those playing in both the individual and team competition. The individual medalist will be the Maine Junior Champion. We will have flights for the individual winners as well.

Maine Junior Team Selection Criteria

The Maine Junior Team is a team comprised of seven boys and three girls from Maine who are selected to compete in the New England Junior Championship against the five other New England states. In 2026, the New England Junior Championship will be held at Crumpin-Fox Club in Bernardston, MA from August 16-18. Travel, entry fees, and all expenses are covered by Maine Golf for players that make the team.

The New England Junior Championship is a limited field event made up of one team from each of the New England states. The criteria for making each state team varies by state. Maine Golf has selected the following criteria for earning an exemption on to the team:

  • Maine Junior Champion – Boys & Girls
  • Low Junior in the Charlie’s Maine Open – Boys
  • Low Junior in the Maine Amateur – Boys & Girls
  • Points Leader in the Maine Open Junior Series – Boys & Girls
  • “Wild card” selection(s) by Maine Golf junior committee

The Maine Junior Team will also compete against New Hampshire in the “Battle of the Border” match play at Biddeford-Saco Country Club on August 14.

Maine Junior Open Series

This junior tournament series aims to extend competitive playing opportunities to all juniors across the state of Maine from mid-May to early August, and to provide a structure around the Maine Junior Player of the Year Award. Lastly, the tournament series will provide an avenue and incentive for all juniors in Maine who want to qualify for the Maine Junior Team, which competes in the New England Junior Championship.
