The 2023 Maine Women’s Senior Amateur at Waterville Country Club began on Tuesday with pretty much the same dismal weather we have experienced all summer across the state. The players were greeted with a heavy mist and drizzle, and finally gave way to just fog throughout the first round. In spite of the wet, soft conditions, Micki Meggison (Spring Meadows) shot a 3-0ver par 76 to take the lead after day one. Beth Truty (Cape Arundel) and Leslie Guenther (Mingo Springs) were just a few strokes off the lead.

Foggy, damp conditions followed by a steady rain challenged the 29 players who made the cut and advanced to the second round. The lead went back and forth while players in the back were making moves in the sloppy conditions. In the end, Micki Meggison held on to beat co-runners-up, Beth Truty and Mary Brandes, by one stroke.
