This week we will highlight the top male and females by naming the Player of the Year winners from the 2025 Maine Golf season. Our 2025 Women’s Senior Player of the Year is Meredith Koerner of Val Halla Golf Course. This marks the first time that the 63-year old Cumberland resident has earned this accolade, mostly in part to her breakthrough win at the Maine Senior Women’s Amateur at the Samoset Resort in September.

Maine Golf: How does it feel to be named as the Senior Player of the Year?
Meredith Koerner: It is humbling to be named the Women’s Senior Player of the Year. There are so many good women golfers in Maine. I think there were 9 senior players who won individual events over the course of the season, and this honor could have gone to any one of them.
MG: What was the highlight of your 2025 tournament season?
MK: Certainly the highlight of the season for me was winning the Senior Am at Samoset. It was a full field at a terrific venue, and the weather couldn’t have been better. I think it helped that I was not in the lead after day one, and on day two I was simply focused on one shot at a time, and I was not tracking where I was relative to others in my group. That’s a little out of character for me, so maybe it’s a good lesson.
MG: Is there anything else you’d like to add about receiving this honor?
MK: A big thank you to Maine Golf for all that it does to promote golf and competition throughout the state. Also, thank you to all the courses that host our events. We appreciate the opportunity to play at different places. Finally, thank you and kudos to all the women who play in Maine Golf. They are great competitors, but more importantly they are good friends. I love that we can compete against each other, celebrate each other’s successes, and cultivate lasting friendships.
