SCARBOROUGH — The inaugural Women’s Match Play takes place this week at Prouts Neck CC in Scarborough. In this year’s event, the field will play an 18 hole stroke play qualifier on Tuesday, September 26, with the top 4 players advancing to the match play portion of the tournament on Wednesday.

Leading the way in the qualifier was Thea Davis, who carded an 80 to earn medalist honors and the one seed in match play. She was followed at 82 by Mary Brandes and Maria Ciancette. The final spot in the match play bracket was settled in a playoff, with Cynde Dunn edging Laurie Hyndman on the third extra hole.

The semifinals took place on Wednesday morning, with both matches going all 18 holes. Brandes and Dunn both advanced to the finals, winning their matches 1 up. In the finals it was Brandes who kept the momentum going, defeating Dunn 5&3 to win the inaugural title of Women’s Match Play champion.
