SCARBOROUGH – The sun finally made an appearance at a Maine Golf event this weekend at the 2023 Parent/Child Championship at Willowdale GC. This annual family event has two-person sides consisting of one parent and one child, with each duo teaming up in a fun and challenging modified alternate shot format. This year again saw a full field of players from around the state for a fun and competitive day of family golf. Winning the overall championship with a score of 68 (-2) were George & Josh Hogan of Portland CC, who teamed up to win this event for the second time, having won at Natanis GC a decade earlier in 2013.
The day saw teams of mothers and daughters, grandparents and grandchildren, and many other team make-ups in this always enjoyable championship. This was the first time that Willowdale has hosted this tournament, and the course proved a good test for the field. The Hogans shot one of only three under-par rounds on the day. Finishing one stroke back in second with 69s were Peter & Chris Deroche (Val Halla GC) and Heath & Ty Cowan (Lakewood GC).
In the modified alternate shot format in this event, both players tee off on each hole then choose one ball to play for the remainder of the hole in alternating shots. In addition to the overall championship, the event was flighted by the age of the younger player on each side, with prizes were awarded to both gross and net finishers. Use the scoring link below to see the winners across all gross and net divisions.
Maine Golf would like to thank Willowdale for hosting this event, as well as all of the families that came out for this annual event that celebrates families and golf!
