AUBURN — Maine is playing host to the men’s Tri-State Matches at Martindale CC this year, welcoming New Hampshire and Vermont in this annual Ryder Cup style competition among the three northern New England states. The matches date back to 1935 and feature some of the best players from each state in a two-day match play competition. In its current format, each team is made up of ten mid-amateurs and four seniors.
On Saturday, the teams will play modified alternate shot, where both players on the team will tee off and then choose one ball to play for the rest of the hole. Each team will play a match concurrently against the other two states. Sunday will feature singles matches. After two rounds, the team with the most points wins the Tri-States cup and holds onto it for the next year.
