The final Maine Golf championship of the summer gets going on Saturday, August 26 at Val Halla GC. The Mixed Championship is in Cumberland this year with a record field of 164 players comprising 82 sides in this year’s event. Teams are made up of one male and one female player and come from all around the state to compete for the Mixed title.
The championship will consist of 18 holes of alternate shot using the Pinehurst format. Also often called Chapman, in this format both players hit drives from the appropriate tee and then both players hit their partner’s ball for the second shot. At that time, one ball is selected and players alternate shots until the ball is holed. Team handicaps will be determined by taking 60% of the lower player’s handicap and 40% of the higher handicap.
